You might start to look for a photographer on social media, Google, The Knot, etc., perhaps even stumble on one too. Also likely, you were given a referral from a friend, or perhaps you were in a wedding and met a photographer. Needless to say, it can be an overwhelming tasks as you hire the person or team that will be responsible for documenting your wedding day for the rest of history.

Today’s post will focus on a few key areas you should consider as you search for your wedding photographer.

Know the Difference

When looking for your wedding photographer, be sure to be on the lookout for these things…

  • Post Processing
  • Photographer Experience
  • Style

Today we will be covering the Post Processing and Photographer Experience, with a follow up post on Style.

Post Processing

Wedding photographs are usually processed in three ways. 1) The photographer that you hired edits them personally, 2) the photographer sources the work out to an editor, or 3) the photographer uses AI software to edit the images.

ProsCons
Photographer– Sees the creation process the whole way through
– Took the photo and has a vision for it
– Present on your wedding and has gotten to know you and what you like
– May be a slightly longer lead time on returning photos, as photographer is editing the images themselves
Editor– Editing is typically a bit faster than the photographer
– Editor can add a personal touch
– Was not present at your wedding and does not know you or the purpose of the image
– Did not take the photos and does not know the intent or the backstory of each picture
AI– Super fast editing– Computer program and cannot add a personal touch

It is important to know how your photos will be processed. Someone who was not at your wedding may end up editing your photos or even a computer program. It is a question to ask, as you may or may not want a person that was not at your wedding editing your photos. Hiring a photographer that handles the whole process ensures you are hiring someone that is an artist and they see the development of your images from start to finish.

When you hire myself as your wedding photographer, you get someone that will be there the whole step of the way with you, from start to end. You email me, you call me, and you meet with me. There is no one else involved. This allows us to get to know on another, who would want a stranger showing p to their wedding? As we go through the planning stages, I am happy to help you walk through the timeline and help make your day stress free so you can just step back and enjoy it!

Photographer’s Experience

There are lot of photographers out there, but you want to ensure you hire someone that knows what they are doing for the price you are paying. To ensure you know what you are getting for the price you are planning on paying, I would highly recommend asking photographers for access to a full wedding gallery. This allows you to get an idea of what you will receive. It is easy to build a portfolio, but can someone capture all the moments of the day and publish an extraordinary gallery if a much bigger challenge and you want to ensure you know what you are getting.
